Non-Solution Aware Flows Ownership Transfer

The primary owner of a ton of non-solution aware flows is leaving the organization, and I was curious if the flows they are the primary owner on will transfer to the next licensed co-owner or what will happen. Anyone have any experience with this?
I have the same question (0)

    Ownership is not transfer automatically.

As per my experience, flow stops working

@11manish thanks that is what I was afraid of. In your case did you transfer to solutions and switch primary owner or what was your process? I'm looking at at least 300 flows

Also the connections are all linked to a shared service account not the owners flow, so it's just the "owner" license that controls the flow

    Hi ,

I would recommend following best practices by introducing a service account and assigning it as the owner of the flows.

I understand that updating ownership for around 300 flows can be quite a tedious and time-consuming task.

Additionally, it would be beneficial to consider moving important flows into solutions (solution-aware flows) for better management and long-term maintainability.

We are 1/2 way there with the service account controlling all the connections just need to handle the ownership issue. How did you change the owner 1 by 1 or programatically?

I've experimented with moving a handful into solutions and it didn't seem to cause any issues, but did you ever come across any issues migrating?

you can use Power Platform PowerShell to bulk assign the service account as an owner.

    Use admin cmdlets like:
    • Get-AdminFlow
    • Set-AdminFlowOwnerRole
Loop through all flows owned by the leaving user
Assign the service account as Co-owner (or Owner role)

Ok I think I've already done that. We used the flow management APIs and looped through all the flows to add the service account as a co-owner. this is one I just did. the one without the profile image would be our service account, and I am the primary owner. If my account would be deleted the co-owner becomes the new owner by default or do we need to run the automation again after the primary owner is gone to reassign the ownership

No need to rerun automation if everything is already reassigned properly

You’re safe if all of these are true:
    • Service account is co-owner on all flows
    • All connections use service account
    • No personal connectors tied to your account

Great thanks for walking me through the process.
