How to switch back input/output variables to Flow variables?

Does anyone know how to go back if a variable was created as Input/Output variable?

Actually it seems that I have to go into each action to change it manually to a new variable name.

Change the input/output variable to a new name

Then change the flow variable to the old name

That way you shouldn't have to change all the actions

Well, not sure if I understand it correctly, but I see only the way into merging the variables to Input/Output variables:

Can you describe it in more detailed steps?
