Download data from planner flow sometimes runs for a very long time

Hello,

I've built a simple flow that extracts data from planner (plans, tasks, buckets, users etc.) and saves it to 3 different csv files which are then loaded into Power BI for reporting. Everything works great, except that sometimes the flow runs for a very long time (5h+) while standard flow duration is about 5-10 minutes.

I've noticed that the flow is more stable during the morning - can planner usage during business hours can have anything do with it?

The goal is to make the flow run once per hour so we always have the most fresh data possible in the PBI report.

Example of long flow run:

Example of standard flow run:

Run history for a last few days:

Thank you,

Tomas

    Hi @TomasKrupa

    Thank you for posting.

According to your description, you are encountering flow runs slowly issue from time to time. If any misunderstood, please kindly let me know.

Actually, there are several factors may affect flow behavior.

    1. The service you are connecting to is running slowly.
    2. The connector you are using is slowing your flow down as a service protection mechanism.
    3. You might see a 429 (Too Many Requests) error in your flow with error text like like "Rate limit is exceeded. Try again in 27 seconds."
    4. Your flow is executing an excessive number of actions per day, far in excess of the daily action limits for your plan.
    5. Your flow is exceeding the data consumption allowance per day.  This is the amount of data your flow consumes as a result of the input/output operations.
    6. Your flow is exceeding a limit that is documented on the Power Automate limits and configuration page.

To alleviate the problem, we can try:

    • Redesigning your flow to use fewer actions and less data.
    • Purchasing a Per User or Per Flow license
