Limitations of Excel Action with Sharepoint

A user recently asked me if this was a limitation of the excel action in PAD, but they are currently using the standard "Launch Excel" action in PAD, and pointing that at an excel file stored in SharePoint. The file opens fine, and I believe they can manipulate the file as needed (they have full control permissions on the site they are working on) but any attempt to save the changes of the excel sheet using either the "Close Excel" or "Save Excel" action results in an error saying the file is read only.

Is this a limitation of the Action?

Most threads here seem to be using onedrive to make PAD think the file is being acted on locally, And I haven't seen any mention of anyone else either attempting this or running into this error.

Is this not possible with the standard excel connector? Do we need to use the Excel Online or switch to Power Automate Cloud?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi

no, but if the file actually in read only mode?

I would have checked that first.

    Hi,

Trying it for first time combining Sharepoint with PAD, i have never thought that could work (without error), well i was able to launch excel file , but that was not in same format as needed , for me it was blank and with different sheet name. Moreover the file was in read-only mode, so saving excel file while closing resulted in error.

To work with files present in Sharepoint location- either try with excel online actions in PAD or in cloud flow. I think that would be best to approach :)

    Thanks & Regards,
