Agent Run Time timeout

ReportReport
Posted on by
Hello,

I have built an agent in Co-Pilot studio that I am trying to have powered by the power automate on the backend. The initiating triggering action in the flow is Recurrence, which is set to once a day in the morning. The next action is Run Agent, which on average can take about 8.5 minutes, as the agent has to gather and pull a lot of information and then generate a report. The run agent action times out after 100 seconds and I cannot take out instructions of information. Is there a workaround to prevent the run action agent from timing out after 100 seconds? The next action after Run Agent is to send an email with those reports. Thanks!

    • You cannot increase the 100-second timeout for the Run agent action. This is a fixed platform limitation.
    • You cannot directly use the agent's output in your email if the agent needs 8+ minutes to generate the report using the current approach.
    • Setting timeout values (like P2D) in action settings applies to other Power Automate actions (approvals, HTTP calls, etc.), but does not apply to the Run agent action, which has its own fixed limit.

    What I have done in the past to solve this (not the best approach):

    Recurrence trigger
    ->
    Execute Agent

    And then I let the agent gather data and email the report itself. This does avoid the timeout. But debugging failures requires digging through Copilot Studio agent activities or  transcripts (if logged) rather than clear Power Automate action-level logs.

    You can also remove the Agent and use AI Builder:

    Recurrence trigger
    ->
    Power Automate: Gather data
    ->
    Power Automate: Generate report (you can use AI Builder here)
    ->
    Power Automate: Generate a summary or insights (you can use AI Builder here)
    ->
    Power Automate: Send Mail

    Hope it helps!
