Hi Everyone,

I’m an Administrative Assistant in the Real Estate industry and I’m working on building a workflow in Power Automate. I’d say I’m intermediate with Power Automate. I understand the general concepts and how flows connect, but I’m still getting more comfortable with expressions and dynamic content.

What I’m trying to do:

When certain keywords are used in a Teams chat, I want it to automatically create a task in Planner that includes:

- The actual chat message in the description

- A clean task title pulled from the message

- (Optional) start and due dates

The issue:

The task is being created, but only the Message ID shows up in Planner — not the actual message from the chat.So instead of the message content, I just see the Message ID value.

What I’ve tried:

- Using the keyword trigger in Teams

- Connecting it to “Create a Task” in Planner

- Using dynamic content from the trigger

- Adding “Get message details”

- Even trying “Get task details”

I am still not getting the message found in the chat. Please refer to my photos from Power Automate Mobile attached below. Sorry the photos are out of order, reminder of workflow: Keywords in Teams Chat > Create Task in Planner.

Let's try this steps and see if missed out something in the flow:

Step-1: Let's select a right trigger: Please use the “When a new message is added to a Teams channel” or “For a selected message” trigger in Power Automate.

Step-2: After the trigger, add the “Get message details” action from the Microsoft Teams connector. This action retrieves the full message content based on the Message ID from the trigger.

Step-3: Use the output from “Get message details” (usually the body or content field) to populate the Planner task’s Title and Description fields. The Message ID alone does not contain the message text, so you must explicitly get the message content.

Note: To create a clean task title, you can use expressions or string functions in PA to extract or trim the message content.

If it helps please marked as answered.

    Thanks.
