Power Automate Desktop and running secure ftp connection.

Hi.

Just started with power automate desktop, so really a beginner.

Wanted to try it out with a simple secure FTP connection.

The flow works great on my local computer, so far all good.

But I get this error when I try on other power automate runtimes: "Expression couldn't be evaluated"

Can I share secure FTP flows between different connectors? Other tasks within the flow work great, only secure FTP is failing.

(sftp works fine from the device from other software, winscp etc.)

@joanyh Hi, i am having the exact same issue (runs fine locally but when i attempt to run unattended on a vm, no deal).  I get that same error that is not listed in documentation "Expression couldn't be evaluated. ."  Wondering if you had figured this out yet?

@aabbondanza Hello, I am also having that same issue (on a VM). Have you found any solution to this?

Hi, no not yet. We have tried a second physical machine with the same result. Still trying to figure this one out! Anything you tried that also did not work?

@Kaif_Siddique Any other suggestions for the group?  The issue is not connecting to the FTP in the first place, it is when attempting to do this via a virtual machine that was not the original machine the flow was created on.

I verified that we can open an SFTP connection using WinSCP (on VM). Turning off the firewall had no effect. It appears to always fail on the first line, "Open secure FTP connection."

We noticed that the VM is having issues resolving the name for  sftp.xxxxx.com, so Im currently looking into why that is the case; maybe that has something to do with it.

To reiterate, this only fails when it's on a VM. It works fine on my device.

    @swyrick SAME EXACT situation here.

@aabbondanza and @joanyh We were able to get my flow working on the VM. To do this, I had to open the flow on the VM and edit it. We deleted and re-created the entire flow portion containing the SFTP steps (open the connection, change dir, upload). Once we rebuilt it, the flow ran as expected. What I assume happened is Power Automate thought that the SFTP password was correct, but when sharing the flow with my service account, it just broke the password.

Odd that the error was just "couldn't be evaluated," but it is working now!

Let me know if that works for you! 😊

Resurrecting this to say i'm working through the same issue. It seems to be an issue with using a direct input password on a different machine. The ftp action doesn't like that. So would it make more sense to pass the password as a variable or directly input the password on the target machine? Seems like that would create an unmanage layer which would create problems later.

@ryanpuffer Just a note, we ended up rebuilding this inside of cloud and used the FTP connector.  Sorry i dont have a solution for desktop!
