It is beyond disappointing and extremely frustrating that Power Automate and Office Scripts do not support refreshing SQL Server data connections in Excel files, even though this works perfectly in Excel Desktop and Online.
After spending hours crossing barrier after barrier to finally achieve a basic flow that could find my SharePoint file and the scripts therein, at the final hurdle, I find out through some extremely unclear error messaging that Power Automate does not support SQL data connections.
This limitation severely restricts automation scenarios for business users who rely on up-to-date data from SQL sources. Given the prevalence of SQL Server in enterprise environments, this should be a core feature. Please prioritize enabling Power Automate to refresh external data connections in Excel, including those to SQL Server.
This would not be so nauseating if my team had not been forced to migrate to a SharePoint Online site from our old SharePoint site which worked much better, and for which all of these basic workflows could be completed using simple macros. Now, even after all the troubleshooting and ridiculous hoops to jump through just to achieve the same processes that used to be easy, I find out that these functions are not even supported anymore?
Not everyone, not every organisation can move to the cloud instantaneously. It is absolutely baffling and disgusting that the support for these key programs and features has been unilaterally swept out from under us, with zero alternatives offered. I await every new microsoft update with bated breath in order to see which of my responsibilities and workflows will be upended by the 'update' removing any and all support for them.
