Hi Team,

We are currently using Microsoft 365 E3 licenses and would like clarification regarding the Excel Online (Business) connector in Power Automate.

Could you please confirm:

  • Is Microsoft 365 E3 sufficient to use the Excel Online (Business) connector?
  • Can we insert and update rows in an Excel file stored in SharePoint Online with just the E3 license?
  • Is any additional Power Automate Premium license required for this functionality?
Thanks

NOTE: Raphael correctly pointed out that as of February 2026, the Excel and SharePoint connectors are now standard connectors. Ignore the part in my reply where I still assumed they were premium.

    Hi,

There are limited use rights with Microsoft 365 E3. You can read that in the Licensing Guide (Appendix B). https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2085130

This does grant access to standard connectors, not premium. Excel and SharePoint are premium connectors. To use these connectors, you need a Power Automate Premium license.

According to the official docs, Excel Business and SharePoint are both Standard connectors as of February 2026, and not premium:

According to the current license guide, you can have access to Standard connectors (including SharePoint and Excel (Business) with a Power Automate Basic license, which is included in M365 E3:

Can we insert and update rows in an Excel file stored in SharePoint Online with just the E3 license?
Yes. Ideally, you should work with Excel tables only, since most Power Automate actions are tied to table objects, but it is also possible to write data to Excel ranges using Office Scripts or GraphAPI (this one requires a premium license).

If you are not familiar with Power Automate, check the following blogs/videos with instructions to perform these operations:

Is any additional Power Automate Premium license required for this functionality?
Based on your description, no. But as Andre mentioned, the Free license is very limited. My recommendation: if you find any roadblocks and think a Premium license can help, Microsoft provides you with a trial for 30 or 90 days, so you can evaluate its features.

Thanks for the correction, Raphael. A recent change I missed. Anyway, the change from premium to standard makes sense.
