I am trying to set a trigger for a power flow automated task, and every article that i read says that choosing a trigger should be on the main screen when creating a new flow, but it is simply not an option on power automate when i try to do this. is there some sort of background feature that has to be turned on before i can use this feature? I'm running windows 11 pro.

I have the same question (0)

You can search for the trigger you're looking for by just typing task in the search box when you go to create your flow.
Then just click on the task type you need and press the create button.

I think you are mistaking Power Automate Desktop with Power Automate cloud portal version. They are completely different products.
Power Automate Desktop (PAD for short) is RPA tool. That does not have any triggers. Its supposed to be triggered from Power Automate cloud (make.powerautomate.com). Or you can trigger it with shortcuts or task scheduler or command prompt: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/run-desktop-flows-url-shortcuts

Power Automate cloud does have triggers like you can see in @David_MA's post. So you can trigger Power Automate in different ways which you could then start Power Automate Desktop run (attended or unattended).

Sorry, I didn't notice the post was tagged with PA Desktop. Since nothing was noted in the title or post that the question was PAD related, I assumed it was PA. I like the old forums where there was one for PA questions and one for PAD questions. I do not use PAD so I am not sure about triggers in PAD. Although, from what little I do know of PAD, I don't think it uses triggers like PA, which would be why you cannot find the trigger for a task, as @eetuRobo noted.
