Convert .xls to .xlsx without using non-MS connectors

I have a system that outputs reports automatically as .xls (and cannot be made to output the as .xlsx). As a result I need to convert them to .xlsx (in order to use them with the excel functions in Power Automate Flow), however our policies will not allow me to use external connectors outside of Microsoft's environment (so Plumsail or Muhimbi are out unfortunately).

Has anyone managed to get a cloud-based flow to do this working, or does anyone have any ideas how to do so? (Unfortunately just changing the extension doesn't work)

Any ideas or suggestions are hugely appreciated!

I was just wondering if anyone had any luck trying an Office Script-based approach for this? It's the next thing on my list.

@AlexEncodian thank you for the reply, unfortunately $11,000 to process 2 reports a day is beyond our price range.

Can your system export data in csv format by any chance?

we had a similar situation where the usual report from SAP saves as .xls, we changed it to .csv. This way I could parse csv without using external connectors.
