I am starting to build a flow with an approval and would appreciate some clarification on a few key points.
From reading other content it was my understanding that the max amount of time an approval can take is 30 days, after this it will timeout. I did a small test by changing the timeout setting of the approval to 1 minute, and after 1 minute the approval link was still working. So am I correct in reassessing that this 30 day timeout is more about the action within the flow, it will wait for 30 days before completing the rest of the flow. The approval link will remain working indefinitely until it is Accepted/Rejected?
Is there a way to start a flow with an approval response, i.e. when colleague responds to an approval this is a trigger for a new flow?
Hi @tatmaninov
30 days is the timeout for the approval action.
This blog post might help you achieve a better scenario - https://365corner.pl/2020/11/13/timeout-in-power-automate-approval/
If you wanted to start a new flow with an Approval response, you could create a table in Dataverse or a SharePoint list which captures the approval response, and then use a "When an item is created or modified" trigger for the flow which points at this data source and trigger it on whatever condition you want.
