Power Automate Multi Level Approver - Dynamic Content

Hi there,

I've just started in a Systems Developer position and I've been asked to make an approval process for one of our departments. I have created a SharePoint list with all the required columns, including 'Approver 1, Approver 2', etc. These columns are 'person' columns so that the initiator of the item can select someone from the directory.

So, in my Flow, I am using the 'Start and Wait for Approval' section, I almost had it completed but it said there were too many components within the nest, as the maximum is for eight.

There are five people who need to approve items and these five people can all be different for whoever the item is raised for. So, when filling in the Assign To field, I'm using dynamic content and select the row of '(x) approver email' from the SP list.  This then changes the step to an Apply to All, and that messes everything up.

Basically, is there a way of creating an approval process without having to define specific users for the approvals to go to within the flow itself. Maybe I'm missing something huge, or just something basic but I've googled and watched A LOT of different youtube videos and I'm still stuck because they all enter the emails of the approvers into the Flow.

Automate is changing your action to a loop because there are multiple 'approver email' items in your SP list, so it assumes you want to use them all, each one in a loop. It sounds like you need to create an action that determines the approver emails outside of the SharePoint list. How exactly are approvers decided? Is it based on who creates a request for approval or are the approvers manually chosen?

Some things to think about. Let me know if you have questions. I'm new to Power Automate still and would be interested to help you work on a solution to this.

    abowen,

Thank you for your reply 😊

I've separated each approver into columns, so it's pulling the correct email at each step. I think the problem might be is that, at the first condition step, I'm then building everything under the first 'Yes' option.

So, I'm wondering if there might be a different step I can use where it's not then nested all under that first 'Yes' condition.

Unfortunately, the approvers are all various different people and it all depends on who is in the reporting chain of the individual the item is being raised on.
