I am very new to Power Automate and am having trouble setting up a flow. We have a SharePoint site used to share folders externally which is becoming cluttered with old folders being forgotten. I would like to set up a flow to remind the creator of a folder when it has been four weeks since it was last modified.
So far I have created a flow to run every Tuesday, sending the creator an email which is great, however I realised the modified date doesn’t update when a file or folder within the folder is added/changed. As we have some folders that are needed for months, I need the flow not to trigger on folders that have had recent activity.
I thought I could make a separate flow triggered by ‘when a file is changed or modified (properties only)’ to update a custom column (called ‘custom modified date’) in the library, and then use that date in the initial flow, but I can’t seem to reference the custom column into a ‘update file properties’ action. Nor can I figure out how to make this only apply to the top level of folders, which is resulting in errors about the flow potentially triggering itself.
I can’t tell if maybe a list will solve this? I found this post which seems similar to what I’m trying to do, however the suggested answer of “whenever a new file is added or updated in any folders, rename the folder with the same folder name“ is well outside my understanding and capabilities of power automate. I’m also not sure if renaming the folder to the same name will break the share link?
Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Cheers,
Ash
