Timeout/Rety Policy Issues

I have a flow which 80% of the time works perfectly fine, however, occasionally some of the stages time out and it has to try again.

 

The problem I'm having is that instead of trying again immediately or within a few seconds, it seems to wait for hours at a time which causes a flow which usually takes 4 seconds to take a day or more.

 

I'm gussing it has something to do with Timeout/Retry under settings but I don't understand exactly what they do and the documentation online doesn't really explain it for me. What I would ideally have is the flow to try again if it doesn't get a response within a couple of minutes, is there a way to configure it to do this?
