Word File Upload in Agent

So I had created an agent which is been published to different platform. Now when I was performing the UAT then I got to know that copilot agents are not able to extract the data from the word file. So is this the issue just with me or is it something like an persistent issue. Are there any solution how can I enable this option?

    Why does this happen?
    • Copilot Studio’s knowledge base indexing may not fully support all Word document structures, especially tables, images, or embedded objects.
    • Sometimes, only plain text is extracted, and formatting or certain content may be missed.
    Possible Solutions:
    • Ensure the Word file is in .docx format (not .doc or other).
    • Simplify the document structure: Use plain text, clear headings, and avoid complex formatting.
    • Re-upload or re-index the document in the knowledge base.
    • Test with a simple Word file to confirm if extraction works for basic content.
    • If critical, convert the Word file to PDF or plain text and add that version to the knowledge base—PDFs are often indexed more reliably.

Hi, if your intention is to upload a Word file directly in chat, there are some limitations to be aware of.

Word (.docx) files are not natively supported for chat uploads. As clearly shown in the "File processing capabilities" settings, the supported formats for file upload are exclusively:
    • .PDF, .TXT, .CSV
    • Images: .png, .webp, .jpeg, .gif (non-animated)
    • Size limit: 15 MB
The .docx format is not on the list, so this is not a bug or a user-specific issue — it is simply a current platform limitation.
