Legacy Power Automate flow does not allow changing Excel connection and cannot use the new designer

Hi everyone,

I need help with a legacy cloud flow in Power Automate.

Current situation:

  • The flow was originally created in August 2021.

  • When I open it, I get a message saying that the new designer cannot be used because the flow was created in an older format.

  • The flow still opens in the classic designer.

  • One of the Excel/OneDrive connections belonged to a former employee, and that connection is now invalid.

  • In the run history, the error says that the connection for that user no longer works.

  •

What I have already checked:

  • I opened Inspect code / Peek code.

  • I searched for the word method, but I did not find it in the action I tested.

  • I did find host.

  • I tried to replace the invalid connection with a connection from an active account.

  • However, every time I try to change the connection or save the flow, it still shows that some connections are unauthorized and that the flow comes from an old template/format.

  • The first error starts in an Excel action, for example: Get a row from table CORRECTIVOS.

  •

What I need to know:

  1. Is there a way to replace a former user’s connection with another active email/account in a legacy flow without having to recreate the whole flow?

  2. If the flow was created in an old format, what is the best practice:

    • recreate it from scratch,

    • move it into a Solution,

    • export/import it as an unmanaged solution,

    • or is there a way to update the connections directly?

    •

  3. If the Excel file was originally stored in the former employee’s OneDrive for Business, is it mandatory to move that file to SharePoint or to the OneDrive of an active account for the flow to work again?

  4. If "method" does not appear in the inspected code, does that rule out a legacy format issue, or not necessarily?

  5.

Additional notes:

  • The trigger and Microsoft Forms steps are working correctly.

  • The failure starts at the first Excel action.

  • I have co-owner access to the flow.

  • I can edit it in the classic designer, but I cannot use the new designer.

  •

Any guidance on the safest way to fix or migrate this flow would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

In edit mode you should be able to use the context menu to create a brand new connection.  When you do that you should be able to login with a new account. After saving the flow with the new connection it should be fine.  You can't just switch the account, it has to be a new connection.

    Hi Paul,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your answer in the Power Automate community. Your suggestion about creating a brand new connection instead of just switching accounts was exactly what I needed.

I had been struggling with this issue for days, and your response pointed me in the right direction. The flow is now working perfectly.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the community. It truly makes a difference!
