Power Automate Pricing and Dataverse

I've been searching for Power Automate licensing prices, and found the prices for an attended user and for an unattended add-on.

But as I understand, to run Power Automate Desktop flows, we need access to Dataverse. (We're at the moment just experimenting with the free community license, where we don't use Dataverse).

I can see that by buying a Power Automate license, we get 50 MB database capacity and 200 MB file capacity. I reckon that we need DB capacity to store the automated flows. Is this correct? If so, can anyone tell how much space a "common" flow would take up?

Furthermore, can anyone tell me whether or not there is any Dataverse licenses bundled in any other license-packages? Like any Dynamic 365 licenses?

In other words, I would like to know - if a company doesn't have any MS licenses, and it wants to get started with Power Automate - what are the needed licenses for this?

Hi @Dapta,

Power Automate flow definitions are stored in the Workflows table in Dataverse (category field indicates what type of workflow, 5/6 are power automate flows). You are correct in that flows will consume storage capacity, but it is very small compared to normal data.

The license you need depends on the context of the flow being used, triggers, and the type of connectors (premium vs standard). Premium connectors can be used in the following scenarios:

For Dynamics 365 apps, you can create/use Power Automate flows within the same environment the Dynamics 365 Dataverse database resides.

If you have a Power Apps per user / per app license, you can create/use Power Automate flows in the context of the apps and data sources used in them.

If you have a Power Automate per user / per flow license, you can create/use Power Automate flows in any environment.

Hi Chris, thanks for your response.

It makes a bit more sense now.

But I still need to figure out; if a company wants to get started with Power Automate (Desktop), is the only needed license then the Power Automate license? And can the company add more space as it goes to Dataverse?

And lastly, could you give an estimation (maybe from personal experience?) on how much space a PA flow will take up on the Dataverse DB? For some reason we can't examine the space used on our own flows - I guess it's because they're made in the community version.

Hi @Dapta,

Power Automate desktop use is free with Windows. Now if you want to run a desktop flow from a Power Automate Cloud flow, you need a Power Automate per user with attended RPA. If you want to run it unattended, then you need to purchase an unattended RPA bot add on.

I don't have a good estimate on how much space a flow takes, but again it's very small. It's just a record in the Database, with a Json workflow definition.
