As of 2 hours ago Copilot stopped producing images and bubble flow charts for me. I think I was looking for the Editor, and clicked on the Analyst agent and since then, everything it gives me is in text, no images. I am also unable to upload images. It keeps giving me instructions to do it in Word.

Why does this happen?

Researcher and Analyst are first-party Microsoft experiences built on the same foundation as Microsoft 365 Copilot, operating entirely within the Microsoft 365 commercial data processing boundary. Microsoft Learn However, they are specialized agents with distinct, focused purposes — different from the default Copilot Chat experience.

The Analyst agent is powered by an advanced reasoning model optimized for enterprise data analytics, excelling at processing Excel spreadsheets, CSVs, PDFs, XMLs, and PowerPoint files. Microsoft Community Hub It is not designed to generate images or visual bubble diagrams — its output is analytical and text/data-based.

Steps to fix

Step 1 — Switch back to the correct agent/context

In the left navigation panel of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, locate the Agents section

Deselect the Analyst agent (click on it and exit), or start a new conversation without activating any specialized agent

Alternatively, explicitly select the Editor agent (if available in your tenant), which supports visual and creative content generation

Step 2 — Verify that the correct capabilities are enabled
You can add the following capabilities to an agent: Code interpreter (solves complex math problems, analyzes data, and generates visualizations) and Image generator (generates images based on user prompts). Step 3 — Re-enable image uploads
To allow file uploads, go to the Settings page for your agent, select Generative AI, navigate to the File processing capabilities section, and turn on File uploads. Microsoft Learn

Step 4 — If the issue persists
Start a brand new session from the main Microsoft 365 Copilot chat (with no specialized agents active). Agents are available in both the Web and Work tabs Microsoft Support — make sure you are on the right tab for your use case.
