License for using SQL Server Premium Connector instead of SharePoint Connector

We have developed many Power Apps for SharePoint, and now want to start a new Power Apps for SQL Server. now seems the connector for SQL will require a Premium account.. so is this premium account required for all the users who will be accessing the Power Apps? or only for the service account user?

second question, using the SharePoint connector, each use who use the Power Apps will connect to the SharePoint list using their Identity ... so is this the same as for SQL server? or all users will access the database using the service account identity ?

Thanks

If you use a SQL data source in a Power App then every user will require a Premium license, either a per user or per app license.

The SQL connector can create either explicit connections or implicit connections depending on the way you authenticate the connector.  Read more here: Use Microsoft SQL Server securely with Power Apps - Power Apps | Microsoft Docs . Explicit connections use the user's credentials.  Implicit connections use a shared connection account credentials.

@Pstork1 so even if i use Implicit connector i need to license each user who will be accessing the Power Apps?

Yes, all users will need a license because they are using the connector.  It doesn't matter whether the connection is Implicit or Explicit.  Its still using a Premium connector.  The only difference is whether the connector uses that user's credentials or a set of credentials stored in the connector.  The premium license is still required by all users running the app.

What particular license is needed to properly connect to SQL Server Premium? Is E3 per user enough?

E3 is not enough.  Each user will need either a per user or per app license to be able to use an App containing a SQL connector.

Pay-As-You-Go licensing is also an option if you don't want to assign individual user licenses to every user of the app. This licensing model might be a better option for you if the app has a mix of regular users & occasional users and/or if you don't want to have to manage license assignments when users get added/removed from the app.

More info on this here and here.

That is true.  But please remember that removing a user from the app doesn't add the per app license back to the pool to be re-assigned for a minimum of 90 days. It will only charge for user's who use the app within a 30 day billing period, But the pool is not particularly dynamic.

If we use Azure Database, do we need premium connectors for every user connecting to Azure Database from Power Apps?

Yes you do. Its the connector that makes the license necessary. It doesn't matter where the SQL data base is located.

How is it for a Power App embedded in Power BI? With "embedded" I refer to the PowerApp visual in PowerBI. I built a solution where I started there and store user entries in SQL server.
Do the PowerBI users also need PowerApp Premium licenses in this case?
