adding a url to message to open in new tab

is there a way i can add a url to a message that opens in a new tab? I am worried if for example i added www.google.com when the user clicks the url it will navigate them away from their current session and i loose the chat. I would like to add something like this

<a href="../html-link.htm" target="_blank">Open page in new window</a>
