Why is it still possible to turn off the 'Use Unified Interface Only' setting and still switch back to the Classic View after December 4 ,2020 in some environments or tenants?

We have a Question Regarding Microsoft Dataverse Environments:

Why is it still possible as of December 11 2020 to turn off the 'Use Unified Interface Only' setting, even right now, and still switch back to the Classic View after December 4, 2020 in some particular environments or tenants?

We can only reproduce it with one specific environment and tenant, in all other ones we tested, the setting is grayed out as it should be. We do not even know how or why we were able to do it in just that one particular environment and tenant. However we wanted to know if anyone else noticed this as well. Also, we wonder, if this is supposed to be the case for that to be still possible to switch it back in some environments and tenants.

Here is what we almost always see on any tenant and environment:

We see it is grayed out as well as the message that the setting is no longer available.

However, in any environment we create on a specific tenant - even one created on 12-11-2020 (a brand new one), on a particular tenant, we see this:

See it is not greyed out at all - even if the instance was just created!

If we leave the setting On, it looks like this when going to the environment:

If we turn it off, and click Save, it takes the change:

and when going in the instance, it didn't just do nothing. It really reverted it!

While in any other tenant, even those with that purple warning that says it is still on the previous capacity licensing model, the setting is grayed out as expected - and in fact was actually grayed out far before December 4, 2020. By the way, as an additional irony, this tenant we were able to reproduce this setting back to classic mode on, is not on the previous capacity licensing model - instead, it is actually on the new licensing capacity model. An environment with the previous capacity we tested on (not on this tenant - on another tenant), still has it grayed out as expected even if it is on previous capacity model - but even if this tenant is on the new capacity model, all environments created in this one specific tenant, can still be reverted to Classic mode for some reason by that setting.

Also, even if it is created a brand new one as Production instance rather than Sandbox, we repeated again the test but set Production not Sandbox - even then, we can reproduce the same thing as the above in that event as well.

Our questions about this are:

1) What specific cases or patterns might be the case about a tenant, that would result in it still being possible to go back to Classic Mode by using this particular setting for a specific tenant? Is it even supposed to be possible at all? We were able to do it somehow in a specific tenant for some reason.

2) Is this supposed to ever happen? Or are we reproducing something that is supposed to be impossible to do in all cases?

3) Did anyone else happen to also notice that reverting to the Classic Mode using that setting (that usually should be grayed out) might still be possible in their environment for some reason (in some cases), even if now it is quite a bit after December 4, 2020? If so, any insight about what specific thing might be the case in your environment that might cause yours to still be able to revert as opposed to probably the almost absolute majority that cannot do this as of December 4, 2020?

To be clear, we are not necessarily observing any specific issue or problem,  as we are not exactly sure what it is in this case, we are just wondering a) if there even is a problem to begin with or if this is actually an expected behavior, and b) in addition to whether it is expected behavior or not, we are also curious what specifically causes it to be possible to revert to Classic Mode after December 4, 2020 using what we believe should be a now-disabled setting for 'Use Unified Interface Only'

Thanks

    Hi @poweractivate,

Not all environments are fully transitioned, but the transition should all be scheduled by now... You can see the status and state in the UCI transition portal: https://runone.powerappsportals.com/my-environments/

When the current status is "Already transitioned" the setting will be disabled, when the status is "Final transition schedule" is will still be active. Here's an example:

    Hope this helps...

    @EricRegnier

Thanks for this one with that portal app, did not know about this.

We checked now and all of them (except for just one) say "Already Transitioned" in that Portal - even the one specifically subject to the original post says "Already Transitioned" in that Portal - however, we can still turn off and on the Use Unified Interface Only setting for that Environment. For those we presume maybe it is mis-reporting it and that after January 15. 2021, all of the Environments will truly have this setting completely disabled, we shall see.

The only one instance that says "Final Transition Scheduled" was another recently created test Environment, and had the Use Unified Interface Only setting left on the "Off" setting for a few days, while the one that still mis-reported it (the one in the original post) actually had it set back to "On" and left like that ever since for a few days (that one is the one that despite saying  "Already Transitioned" it can still be set to "Off" again right now)  - maybe whether it is currently on or not for a few days, influences the reporting in that app, and maybe when it says  "Already Transitioned" - maybe sometimes, it still is possible to reverse the setting anyway until the final transition date. We are not sure of it, but maybe that is the case as well.

Thank you for this information it really helped.
