How to split pdf from one scanned document

Hi, I have this one compiled PDF file which are scanned documents(images) that contains multiple invoices. The number of pages for each invoices varies, some had 3 pages per invoice, some had only 1.

I would like to know, is there a way to split them according to their right number of pages ?

The only indicator to the page number are the word "Page 1 of 1", "Page 1 of 3", "Page 3 of 3", on the right side of the each pages.

Any assistance would be appreciated. I would also like to hear if the cloud version have any solution for this. Thank you kindly.

Hi @RookAils

Can you tell me is the "Page 1 of 1", "Page 1 of 3", "Page 3 of 3", these are a plain text in PDF or that is also included in the image only? If you could share some sample, that will be more clear

Have you tried using the Extract images from a PDF file action? For scanned documents it should extract a single image per page. This should technically return as many images as there are pages on the file. You can then use that as a counter to know how many pages you need to split the document into. You can then delete the images afterwards.

I did try doing that. However, it does splits the file per image but after that how do I set that certain invoices got 3 pages and some got 1 page ?

For instance, in a pdf file, there's 21 pages, consists from only 6 invoices. Invoice A had 3 pages only, Invoice B had 1 pages only and etc. This is varied value, the PDF cant always be first 3 pages for Invoice A, and 1 for B etc. I'm not clear on how to instruct the PA Desktop to merge the files based on these settings/

Okay, that is definitely not what I thought you needed to do. I thought you simply needed to split a single PDF file into separate files with one page per file.

The only way to do this properly would be using Extract text with OCR on those images that you extracted from the PDF. Do it for each image separately and see if you can extract the page number. Then use that to split your PDF.

Extract text with OCR works best when extracting text from files. But it does not work with PDF files, so you do in fact need to use Extract images from a PDF file first and then use those images in Extract text with OCR.

Please note OCR is not 100% accurate and you also need to experiment on it a bit to make sure you use the appropriate height and width multipliers that allow you to extract the text as accurately as possible.

Yes I did try that and its not really consistent on the output. Perhaps, is there any solutions that could be done on the Cloud version ?
