EML vs MSG - Need Clarification

Part of my job involves archiving emails to a network drive on a daily basis. These emails are saved out w/ attachments and are currently saved in .MSG format. I've scoured these forums, reddit etc. trying to find a way to build a flow that will save emails in .MSG format but it seems PA only supports .EML format (Side-note: my company doesn't allow access to auto archive settings in Outlook).

1. Is anyone aware of any workarounds (even if they are convoluted & unnecessary) in order to get a .MSG format saved down? Could I use an Office Script to somehow pull the Email? or save an MSG attachment from an email?
2. What are the benefits of saving in EML vs. MSG? If only EML is supported, I'll need to convince my boss that this is the superior format. Is it more efficient from a storage perspective? It seems to save attachments, but is there anything EML can't do that MSG can?

    Hi @ThanksInAdvance

MSG are proprietary format for the application, EML are open format that any email program that can read that standard.. will be able to read it.

So saving MSG just forces you into whatever you are using (Outlook for instance).

For long term compatibility you should use EML.

If I have helped you, I would really appreciate if you please Mark my answer as Resolved/Answered, and give it a thumbs up, so it can help others

Thanks for the reply. Compatibility aside, is there a difference in file sizes? Is one more efficient from an archiving / storage standpoint?

If compatibility doesn't sell your bosses, you should find new ones.

File sizes are not that much difference. You aren't going to win with its faster, or smaller, but future proofing your backups, thats the win the rest is pennies on the thousands of dollars..

    not worth the argument otherwise.
