Excel file processing

I've build an agent in copilot studio light that out of the box processes Excels attached to the chat and reasons over them.
When I try to transfer that into copilot studio, the settings mention XLSX files as attachements it can work with but whenever I do attache it the agent does not recognize the file and cant work with that file.

How can I make it proces any random Excel files attached by the user to the chat.

You can use  Power Automate to handle the attachment:

    •     Capture the uploaded file
    •     Store it (SharePoint / OneDrive)
    •     Use Excel connector (e.g., List rows in a table)
    •     Pass the extracted data back to the agent

In Copilot Studio (full), Excel attachment support is not automatic the same way it is in Copilot Studio Light. You must explicitly configure the agent to use uploaded files during generative reasoning.

    What to do:
    1. Turn File uploads ON in Agent settingsFile processing capabilities.
    2. Ensure Generative answers are enabled for the agent.
    3. In your topic, add a Generative Answers node.
    4. In that node:
      1. Enable Use conversation attachments
      2. Do not restrict file types or filenames
    5. Prompt the agent explicitly to analyze the attached Excel file (for example: “Use the uploaded Excel file to answer the question.”)
    6. Test with a standard .xlsx file (≤15 MB, not password‑protected).
If you skip step 4 or don’t reference attachments in the prompt, the agent will ignore the Excel file, even though uploads are enabled.
