Device Optimization - Changes to Supported Controls

I've noticed that a lot of the controls supported for device optimization have disappeared.

Here is a screenshot from the studio with the optimization filter enabled, taken some time ago:

..and here is one today:

Absent any modern inputs besides checkbox, toggle and the preview toolbar. No button anymore, no combo box, no text input or even text labels.

I know this is a preview feature and therefore subject to change any time, but is there anywhere this is discussed? The documentation still shows the controls as all being supported: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/mobile/optimize-for-devices-controls#device-optimized-controls
I have the same question (0)

@11manish of course, this setting is already on. The filter within the Insert menu does not have that option unless optimize for devices is enabled in the app settings. This question is not about how to enable device optimization, but if anyone knows why so many controls have been removed from there.

    Hi @WillPage,

The disappearance of many controls from the "Device Optimized (Preview)" filter in Power Apps is a known behavior tied to the evolving nature of this preview feature.

    • Microsoft has temporarily reduced the set of supported controls visible under this filter, focusing on a smaller subset of modern controls like Checkbox, Toggle, Button, and a few others.
    • Some classic or older controls (e.g., Combo Box, Text Input, Labels) have been removed from the filter temporarily as the feature matures.
    • The official documentation still lists many controls as supported, but the studio experience may differ due to ongoing updates.
    • This is expected behavior during the preview phase, and Microsoft plans to expand and stabilize the supported control set over time.
    • Screens built solely with supported device-optimized controls render natively on mobile devices, improving performance and user experience.
NOTE: The Device Optimized (Preview) feature is still under active development and subject to change.

I just tested this and the full list of optimised controls appear for me.

The controls I see match those from your first screenshot.  In the filter, I also see the updated 'preview' checkbox that's shown in your second screenshot.

I've not seen any news or official discussion about Microsoft reducing the supported number of optimised controls. Even if they were to discontinue support for controls, it would seem unlikely for them to deprecate modern control support, or button support - which you guess would be one of the most likely candidates for optimisation.

I suspect this might be an issue that's isolated to your specific app. Have you tried rolling back your authoring version to see if makes a difference? If you create a brand new app, do the full list of optimized controls appear there?
