Does Power Apps Monitor work with the Windows Power Apps player?

I’m trying to troubleshoot a canvas app issue that only happens in the Windows Power Apps player.

When I open Monitor from make.powerapps.com and use ā€œPlay published app,ā€ it opens the app in the browser and Monitor captures the browser session correctly.

However, I need to capture the same app running in the Windows Power Apps player. If I copy/open the Monitor session link, it also opens the app in the browser, not the Windows player.

You’re running into a real product limitation, not a misconfiguration this is what happening in the background

When you start a Monitor session using ā€œPlay published appā€, Power Apps explicitly:
Even when you use Copy monitor link:
    • It is designed to launch a monitored session via a URL
    • That URL resolves in a browser context by default (unless explicitly handled by mobile player deep links) [learn.microsoft.com]
There is no documented mechanism that binds a Live Monitor session to the Windows Power Apps desktop player.

Since you’re debugging a player-only issue, tell me, What exactly breaks in Windows player (error/behavior) and Data source (SharePoint / Dataverse / API).

    Hi AD-22040756-1,

Adding to the existing response — this is a documented limitation. According to Microsoft Learn, Power Apps Live Monitor attaches to a browser session when you use "Play published app" or copy the monitor link. There is no supported mechanism to bind a Live Monitor session to the Windows Power Apps desktop player.

Alternatives for debugging Windows player-specific issues:
    - Use Trace() function calls in your app to log custom events. These appear in Monitor when you run the same scenario in the browser, letting you approximate the behavior.
    - Use App.OnError with Notify() to surface errors directly in the app UI while testing in the Windows player.
    - Use the Set() function to log state to variables and display them on a debug screen within the app itself.

Monitor doesn't attach to the Windows player, only the browser. Apologies for suggesting it in the previous thread as the diagnostic tool.

For troubleshooting Windows player-specific issues, the alternatives are:

    1. Fiddler or Charles Proxy: install on the Windows machine and capture all HTTP traffic while reproducing the issue in the Windows player. This shows every API call the app makes including the Dataverse file upload requests.
    2. Windows Event Viewer: check for Power Apps player errors in Application logs when the issue occurs.
    3. Microsoft support ticket: since you've confirmed the issue is Windows player-specific and reproducible, a support ticket with the exact repro steps and a screen recording of the failure is the most direct path. Microsoft's engineering team can attach diagnostic tooling to the Windows player build.

For the Dataverse file upload issue specifically: the support ticket is likely the only path forward since the root cause appears to be inside the Windows player runtime.

    Best regards,

    Valantis
