Document Approval Flows - Link to Document

Perhaps I'm missing something pretty basic, and I apologize if that is the case, but I'm trying to create and test my first Flow, which is a document approval workflow with SharePoint Online document library.

I'm simply find it odd that on the approval email, there is no link to the document for which they are approving.  Any links that they click in that email simply takes them to Flow where they can leave comments and confirm their disposition but there does not seem to be a link to the document itself there either.

So, I've been trying to find a way to add a link to the item in the body of that email.  As you can see from the samples below, none of these options gives me the full path.  I can manually put the first part of the path in the body of the email and then add "File Path" to the end of that, but then I just get a broken link that the user must copy and paste into the browser.

File entity tag "{028B4C85-D753-40F2-B75D-B9E81889FF08},6"

File Name: Yet another.docx

File Identifier: %252fShared%2bDocuments%252fAudit%2bCommittee%252fYet%2banother.docx

File Path: /Shared Documents/Audit Committee/Yet another.docx

I must be missing something here.  Please help if you can.  Thanks.

    Hi chasquad,

I create a simple flow to test this issue, the flow is configured to send an approval email when a file is created in SharePoint library.

For the email body, I configure it with the dynamic content “File path”.

But when an approval email is sent, the file path cannot direct me to the file in the document library.

I assume this idea on Flow Ideas Forum could be a reference for you. Please consider to vote and comment the idea at here.

I have found you can use Dynamic content .But it is not ideal.

In the Start an Approval action, I get the "Item Link" field. I put the website (without the https:// in the front) then choose the dynamic content "File Path" from my "When a file is created" trigger.

If you use the "When a file is created (Properties only)" Trigger you get a dynamic content of "Item Link" that works great, but there are things you don't get with the "Properties only" trigger that you do with the other. (file Identifier being one). I would love to have 1 trigger for "When a file is created" in SharePoint that pulls all the data at once so you can get the file information AND the custom fields from SharePoint (which only come over if you use the Properties only trigger)

Our team has also been struggling to get a link to the document we are requesting approval on included in the approve/reject email.

It looks like you have been successful with the "Item Link" field. Can you provide any additional details on how you got that to work and included a clickable link in the approval email?

    Thanks in advance!

In my case, I've been using Get files properties action. ID is a property of "When an HTTP request is received" trigger, which is set by default when creating an approval request flow from the template.

    Get file prop.PNG

Then in email body with Dynamic content, I use Document ID and it works pretty well.

    Hope, this helps.
