The on-premises gateway license

Hi all

I plan to buy some licenses for Project Plan 1 and 3. I need to integrate with on-premise applications, so need to use on-premises gateway.

  1. Power Automate, so I think that I do not need to buy lincense. It comes with Project Plan 1 or 3 - is it correct?
  2. Do I need to purchase a license for the on-premises gateway?
  3. In the design of the on-premises gateway there is Azure Relay (document here) Do I need to purchase a license for Azure Relay?

Thanks

Truong Dai

    Hi @dpoggemann

    Thanks you so much

I would like to show in my case. I will buy 20 users for Project plan 1, and 5 users for Project plan 3 so that I need to buy

    • 1 user Power Automate license (15 $US/per month)
    • 25 user Power App license / per app license (5 $US /user/app/month)
    • and price for Project: 20 user for Plan 1 (10 $US/user/month) and 5 user for Plan 3 (30 $US/user/month)

    So license per month is =15 + 5*25 + 10*20 + 5*30 = 490 $US/month

    Am I right?

    Re: The on-premises gateway license

    Hi @dai_bsdinsight ,

This is only in context of the Project application with standard connectors and being able to store in Dataverse related to the Project application only.  You do not get Power Automate license to connect to any other premium connectors or on premises data connectors.   Example details on this from current license details:

6 Power Automate use within Project is limited to the context of the Project application. What this means is that for both triggers and actions, flow entitlements included with Project can:

    • Connect to any data source within the use rights of the Project application:
      • Data sources available via standard connectors.
      • Project data via the Microsoft Dataverse connector.
    • Be triggered directly from within the Project application (via built-in trigger/action).

Other details from the documentation you referenced:

4 Building and using separate Power Apps beyond the out-of-the-box Project application that access Project for the web or Project Online customer data requires a separate Power Apps subscription.

    Hope this makes sense...

    Hi @dpoggemann

thanks for your reply. I got document of Project here Microsoft Project for the web service description - Service Descriptions | Microsoft Learn

I think that I can have Power Automate license in context of the Project Application - Is it corect?

    Hi @dai_bsdinsight ,

To communicate through the on-premises gateway you would need a Power Apps or Power Automate license to do so, none of the Office 365 Power Automate license capabilities allow this.  Are you utilizing the following (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/get-started-with-project-power-app-6fc1e719-5c90-4edf-8f8c-f267ff9d8cf6)?  If so then you would probably want a single Power Automate Per User license to build and deploy your flows and then have a Power Apps Per App license for each user that is using the Power App.  They would be able to leverage the flow through the on premises gateway with the Power Apps Per App license since it is within scope of the application.  Not sure this is your use case but wanted to mention the possible licensing needs.  You do not need to purchase the Relay, this is part of the connector.
