Explicit vs Implicit - Using Azure AD for SQL

Hello,

My app is about finished and I realized I am sharing the SQL "implicitly" which turns out is bad.  I did some reading and I guess I have to use Azure AD handshakes to do it explicitly, how hard is this to do, or is there an easier way to do so? Can anyone kindly point me in the right direction? I would appreciate.

Oh hello, thanks for the response. That's actually what I ended up doing, I created a new environment and moved my app to it, where only I have any control.  Now in the default environment the SQL connection does not auto show and this brings me joy 🙂 Good to know they have updates on the way though I'll look into that, thanks again!

    Hello @CharlesBrewer,

There are multiple options to secure access to data in your case:

    1. There is a new feature in the pipeline that will ensure that even if you use implicit connections, the actual connection will not be available for other app makers. This will also be available for apps already developed. You can find more information here.
    2. You can move your app to a production environment by using solutions. In this production environment, you can make sure that other users do not have a role that allows them to create apps and flows. This will prevent them from creating apps and flows with the implicit connection you shared when you shared the app.
    3. You can set up your SQL and your connection to use another authentication method. You can find more information on this here.
