File Contents not transferring to Power Automate

I am making an agent that takes the input from the user which is going to be a file, a handbook, and then the agent will then it will use the handbook to answer questions from a questionnaire that is stored as a knowledge source. I have the agent and workflow written out but I keep getting the issue of the content of the file being empty. Can you take a look at my screenshots and let me know if you see the error?

The Compose Debug is just to check the value and make sure the content is brought over. Also for clarification UploadedPDF is the input of When an agent calls the flow.

If you have any questions please ask

    Hi @CU09031133-0,

The first concern came into my mind is if the content of the file is coming through empty in your agent workflow, that usually means the file ingestion step isn’t actually extracting the text — the agent is just probably passing a file reference (URL, ID, or binary) without converting it into usable text.

Let's check some basic area first:

    1. File connector limitation: SharePoint/OneDrive “Get file content” returns binary, not text. If you pass that directly to your agent, it looks empty.
    2. Unsupported format: If the handbook is a Word/PDF, you need a text extraction step.
    3. Agent prompt design: If you’re referencing the file object but not its extracted text, the agent sees nothing.
    4. Knowledge source mismatch: Copilot Studio knowledge sources expect plain text, not raw file blobs.
If we suspect one of the above reasons, let's do a quick check to narrow down the problem:
    1. Add a Compose after “Get file content” → if you see binary gibberish, you need extraction.
    2. Add a Compose after “Extract text” → confirm you see readable handbook text.
Please let me know what do you see and if there is any clue there.

I am sure some clues I tried to give. If these clues help to resolve the issue brought you by here, please don't forget to check the box Does this answer your question? At the same time, I am pretty sure you have liked the response!

Which Channel did you published your agent? Whatsapp for example can't handle file sharing.

I haven't published my agent yet, as I am still in the testing phase.

Also I do have a compose debug action where it will return empty if the file contents do not move into the power automate workflow and it has always returned empty. For my question node I do have Include file metadata enabled. My workflow does intend to create a file in OneDrive so that the file contents can be pulled and extracted via Recognize text in a image or document so I can plug that into the Create generative answers node.
