Anyone have a workaround for the Renaming UI element bug

PAD is giving me an error for a grouping saying the "UI element name XXX" is already in use.  I can't rename it because of the multi-year old PAD bug.  I tried saving, quitting PAD, reopening and trying again.  No dice.

 

Has anyone found a reliable way to rename UI elements and get them to stick?

    Ive had a similar issue. It will let me change the name however, when I try and add the element it still shows the old name. If I save, exit and re-launch, it comes back with the old name. However, on one occasion it actually worked and the name stuck. I didnt do anything different so I cant say how I managed to get that instance to work. I have not managed to successfully rename another element since. Still need a solution.
