Is it possible to create and edit documents using Copilot Studio without utilizing M365 Copilot?
can I get a document to show the steps?
There are a several approaches you may want to consider (depending on requirements) for showing documents in the conversation of your Copilot Studio conversations:
1. If you add a SharePoint site to a Copilot with Generative AI enabled, then generated responses can reference those documents and surface them as footnotes and references in copilot responses (learn more here).
2. If you upload documents to a Copilot with Generative AI enabled, then the same would apply for those documents as was the case in #1 above (learn more here). However, remember that in this case the document is stored in Dataverse, and clicked references are downloaded to the client.
3. If you choose to use the Power Automate actions (Call an action, Create a flow - learn more here) then you can use the "Populate a Microsoft Word Template" action to create a Word file from a previously stored template (helpful video on this). Once the file is created you can use the outputs of the flow response to provide a link to the new file for the end user. In fact, you have access to any connector in Power Automate which would be related to creating, copying, or updating files such as for Word, SharePoint, and OneDrive (list of connectors).
4. If you choose to use the Connector (Call an action, Connector tab) you can search for any relevant actions which relate to creating or editing MS Office files. This is the simpliest type of plugin action (learn more here), and results are very similar to #3 above, only Power Automate is not required. This usually works best if you just have 1 thing to do, rather than a full batch of process actions (or interdependent actions) which might require several nodes in the topic. Remember that a premium license would be required to use Premium Connectors in Copilot Studio.
5. Of course if none of the above works, you can also create a plugin to get specifically what you need (learn more here).
