Canvas App crashes while working/running – how to identify cause and prevent it?

Hi everyone,

I have a Power Apps Canvas App that sometimes crashes while users are working in it. The app opens normally, but during usage it suddenly stops/responds slowly/crashes.

I want to understand how to troubleshoot this issue and how to avoid it in future.

What are the best practices to check this?

I am planning to verify these points:

Check app performance using Monitor

Check if any screen has too many controls/formulas

Check heavy OnStart, OnVisible, or repeated ClearCollect calls

Check delegation warnings

Check large collections or too many records loaded at once

Check connector/API calls failing or taking too long

Check if app is using too many images/media files

Test in different browser/device/network

Review formula errors from App Checker

Optimize formulas using Concurrent(), avoid unnecessary variables/collections

Can anyone suggest the best way to identify the exact reason for Canvas App crash and recommended fixes to avoid this issue?

Hi there!

You already have a solid troubleshooting approach. There’s actually a Microsoft Learn training path on this topic, which I also recommend following:

In my experience, most performance issues in Canvas Apps are related to loading large data sources on screen. Even though Power Apps can handle over 2,000 records in collections, my recommendation is to avoid displaying more than 150 records per screen. Instead, you can implement pagination to improve performance.

If, after applying these optimizations, you still don’t see any improvement, I would recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support.
