Set up the data on-premises gateway on a non-default environment

I am not an Azure AD Global admin, but I am an admin on a newly created non-default environment with a database. I can't see the data gateway under the new environment (the default one has no database), and non of the Global admins or Local admin knows how to set it up. I looked all over for instructions but I couldn't find any. I know that Microsoft announced the support in 2019

but no further instructions anywhere on how to achieve that.

Please check if gateway is the right region.

Here is the situation
We created a new environment with a database
We couldn't get the gateway to show up under the environment to create a connection
Here is what we missed and how we resolved the issue
Any of the data gateway admins must be a member of the environment security group for you to be able to utilize the data gateway.
