Use filtered subset of CDS entity as data source for Power App

Is there a way to create a filtered subset of a CDS entity that I can pass to one of my Power Apps as a data source? I can obviously filter in the app, but to guard against sending too large a data set to the app I would like to "pre-process" it to a manageable size before manipulating it in the app. I thought of creating a new entity and using the Get Data\Blank Query option in CDS, but don't know how to reference the entity in question.

    Hi @mpezzutti

This looks like a completely different question with a different topic.  It's best if you create a new post so things don't get confused.

It is really hard to understand your issue with the brief description you have given.  Are you able to provide steps and screenshots of what you are trying to do?  There are multiple ways of "importing data from Excel" with the Power Platform.

    Hello

I am importing the data from excel and I made one of my fields called Owner as specified. When I import it , the Owner data does not go into the Owner field as specified but rather creates a new field called Owner . What am i doing wrong here?

Thank you very much @HSheild@Drrickryp , and @ben-thompson for that advice. I tried using Views before and couldn't get it working, so I assumed that was not the solution to my problem. When I now looked into Views again, I got it working.

As I know far too much about the internals of CDS as @HSheild states if you select a view as your data source the filter will be applied within CDS prior to the data being passed to the Canvas App.

    Hi @DirkKotze

It is very easy to do this.  First select an entity and then open the views option  Create the view with the data you want included and then filter it by selecting the filter option on the right hand column and add the sort direction.  Name and save the filter.  You can create as many views as you like and sort the columns in each view.

Then in PowerApps, when you set up your gallery, choose the entity as the Data Source, then select the view and the Items property of the gallery will reflect the filtered view.

    Hi @DirkKotze

Have you tried the recent added feature where you can select a View of your CDS data source entity?  I'm pretty sure that this is pre-filtered at the CDS source rather than in the Cavas App.
