Lose text formatting from Microsoft form to Word

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by 8

Below is my flow that pulls the responses of a Form into a word template and emails it to the owner of the form response pulling out key information into body of email and attaching full response. Unfortunately both the email and the word document appear to lose the formatting of paragraphs of the long text answers that were inputted into the form. Is there a way to ensure the answer formatting is kept when pulled across?

First of all, this forum is meant for desktop flows, but your question is related to cloud flows. The correct forum to post questions like that is here: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/bd-p/BuildingFlows

Secondly, I would suggest that you provide more context and samples. What kind of formatting are you talking about? Can you provide screenshots?

Hi Agnius, thanks for your response, I will try the other forum if I don't have any luck here.

An example of the issue is here below:

    Input into Microsoft forms:

    Email Output

    Keenz_1-1689689237765.png

    Word Document output

Does this help further clarify the issue?

    Thanks,

    Adam

Can you share the raw inputs from the flow run?

Nope. When you open your flow, there should be a view of previous flow runs available. Open one of those and then expand the trigger action, and see the outputs of it.

I've pulled out the section from my above example:

The key takeway messages from my engagement are:

Testing Here
    Testing New Line
    Another New Line

Interestingly still kept the formatting at this point.

This is really not what I meant. When you open your flow, there will be an overview view that has the 28-day run history at the bottom of the screen. Will look somewhat like this:

    Agnius_0-1689765346587.png

Click on the timestamp of one of these, to see the run details that should look somewhat like this:

    Agnius_1-1689765381838.png

Then click on the trigger action to see its outputs. And copy that here.

Apologies for the delayed response, is this the bit you meant?

Okay. It seems like it sends \n characters for newline. I would suggest trying the replace() expression to replace \n with a literal new line. However, you will not be able to pass a new line as inputs to the replace() expression directly. You will need to initialize a new variable of type string that contains nothing but a new line (press the enter key in the value field of the new variable) and then use that variable in the replace() expression.

Let me know if this solves your issue.
