Problem with sse mcp server.

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to connect a Copilot Studio agent to my SSE (Server-Sent Events) MCP (Message Completion Protocol) server, and I'm running into an issue where the agent just keeps "thinking" indefinitely when I test it.

Here's what I've done so far:

event: endpoint
data: https://THIS_IS_MY_DOMAIN/messages/?session_id=A_SESSION_ID

  • Server Details: My SSE MCP server is written in Python and is hosted in a personal VPC.

  • Other Clients Work: Crucially, I've successfully tested this same server with several other MCP clients, including the GitHub Copilot extension for VS Code, Claude Desktop, and Inspector. They all connect and function without any problems.

  •

Despite all this, the Copilot Studio agent just gets stuck. It never seems to receive a response or complete the interaction.

Could anyone offer some guidance on what I might be missing or what I should be looking into? Any troubleshooting tips or common pitfalls with Copilot Studio and custom MCP servers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

from what you described, it could be:
    1.  Network.
    2. Authentication.
    3.  Schema.
    4.  Bug.
Is your endpoint a private one ?
Have you tried to invoke it via power automate ? if that works, wrap it in an action within copilot if you capture anyting.
Another one is create a azure function to mimic your endpoint to see if that works.

    Hello @stampcoin

    Thanks for the reply!

My endpoint is currently public and doesn't require authentication, as it's just a lab environment for now.

I'm a bit stuck on how to test it with Power Automate. I tried setting something up, but it just keeps running without sending any emails.

The main thing that's puzzling me is why it works perfectly with other agents but not with copilot studio.

    Thanks.

Microsoft is making update to have native use with tool part of copilot studio (not eveybody already received the roll out of tool windows in copilot studio)

Before this update how i connected MCP :

The way wich seem leggit is by using action inside copilot studio and connect you MCP as action or custom action.
BUT like you it s stuck and don't work, it s a bug and i think till microsoft will release a real connector for it (confirmed this monday)

you could use a custom connector, configure it, choose you parameter and then use it inside power auomate : it s more easy than an HTTP connector.

I m using my MCP like this. Then i add my power automate as an action in copilot studio with orchestration mod and i let copilot studio call the server.

    Thanks for reply.

Actually my original attempt was using a custom connector, but I have the same result.

Maybe I need to wait for the native support.

    Thank you.
