Licensing for PpowerApps with one Dataverse (CDS)

Hi Community

Can you clarify the licensing cost of having one model driven app with dataverse and canvas app(s)?

Is this what 8.40(eur) per user per app means? - https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/

If I had multiple Canvas apps in this configuration would that increase the cost per user?

If I had another model driven app in this configuration would that increase the cost per user?

If I have Flows running to automate some of the activities is that another cost on top of the above?

If I want to user PowerBI for reporting is that another cost on top of above for the users or just for someone developing the reports?

Does this all include having multiple environments i.e. one dev, one test , one Prod?

I have a client who does not want to pay for Dynamics as it is 60 euro per month per user and unless they adopt it strategically it doesn't make any sense as we'd have 500 users who would need to use the application(s).

If I could build them a solution for one product line just using a CDS with Model Driven App/Canvas App with minimal cost, then I could show the benefits and maybe influence a strategic decision (Dynamics for all product lines).

Thanks

Mark

The per app license covers up to two related apps per user. So if the Canvas apps all used the Dataverse as a data source then you would need more than one per app license per user or you would need a per user license per user(which will cover an unlimited number of apps)

If I had another model driven app in this configuration would that increase the cost per user?

Yes, two model driven apps would require 2 per app licenses.

If I have Flows running to automate some of the activities is that another cost on top of the above?

If the flows are related to the apps then they are covered by the app licensing. Only standalone flows or desktop flows need to be licensed seperately.

PowerBI is licensed seperately.  Check the PowerBI forums here for more information.

Per app licenses are tied to an environment.  Per User licenses cover the entire tenant, but the number or environments you can create is dependent on capacity.  Licenses provide additional capacity, but if you create a lot of environments that may not be enough.

    Hi @markikav

    >>If I had multiple Canvas apps in this configuration would that increase the cost per user?
    >>If I had another model driven app in this configuration would that increase the cost per user?

The answer to both these questions is yes. The €8.40 per user plan licenses up to 2 apps per user. Licensing additional apps would an extra cost. If you want to license multiple apps, at some stage it will become more cost-effective for you to subscribe to the "per app" plan.

    >>If I have Flows running to automate some of the activities is that another cost on top of the above?

A Power Apps license will include rights to access the premium connectors that are included with plan, so there will be no additional costs for what you intend to do.

    >> If I want to user PowerBI for reporting is that another cost on top of above for the users or just for someone developing the reports?

If you want to provide authenticated access to PowerBI, that would require additional licesning.

    >> Does this all include having multiple environments i.e. one dev, one test , one Prod?

If you want to provision multiple environments, you'll probably want to purchase additional Dataverse/CDS space, for which there will be an additional cost.

Note that although a per app license supports up to 2 apps, this applies throughout the tenant. Therefore, licensing the same app in both the DEV and PROD environment will use up those 2 allowances.

    Thank you both this helps.

So if they want to use PowerBI it's an additional cost per user to use the better reporting features.

Also thats interesting regarding the multiple env i.e. dev, test, prod, who wouldn't have this configuraton?!

I guess we would only need licenses then for the Devs in Dev env, Testers and some UAT folks (or should have a UAT env!) and then the majority in Prod.

Lots to think about and it always comes down to cost first with the clients so hopefully Microsoft can bundle these packages better.

Per user plan at 33.40 probably their only option here, which they'll deem too expensive in the immediate term.

However if adopted as strategic solution with multiple business lines utilising apps then it makes perfect sense.

Any information on how people have brought customers on such a strategic journey out there I'd most appreciate some info !

    Thanks
