Can I use custom instructions to omit some files in the CitationSources, I want the create generative answer node to refer to the document but do not include that documents the CitationSources, is it possible to do it by adding custom instructions in the create generative answer?

Hi @KW-18110402-0,

Custom instructions can't selectively hide documents from citations while still using them for grounding.

if you want the generative answer node to reference a document internally but exclude it from the CitationSources shown to users essentially hiding the source while still using it. This isn't supported.

Your actual options:

Don't include that file as a knowledge source for that node in the first place. If you don't want it cited, remove it from the knowledge base.

Customize the response manually. Clear the default message and write your own response without citation links—you control what appears.

Switch to Custom data mode and only surface citations you explicitly want through the ContentLocation/Title fields.

Citations are a built-in transparency layer in Copilot Studio there's no setting to suppress them via custom instructions.
