I am looking at posts from years ago and trying to see if the circumstances have changed. My goal is to have a simple app that can either scan DL barcode or allow manual entry and then print to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth printer while running on an iPad. It seems like printing is (was) not supported on iPad. Anyone done anything like this? Is it possible?

Hi BrianHFASPS,

Yes, it's possible but with limitations.

Scanning the DL barcode could be fully supported on iPad using the Power Apps barcode scanner control.

Printing to a label printer from iPad. Power Apps itself has no native print support on iPad. The workaround is to use Power Automate to handle the print job, triggered from the app. The flow sends the data to the printer via its API or a cloud print service (like Zebra, Dymo, or Nicelabel if that's your printer brand, most enterprise label printers have cloud/API support).

Bottom line: The app collects/scans the data on iPad, passes it to a flow, the flow sends it to the printer. It works, but you can't print directly from Power Apps on iPad natively.

What label printer model are you using? That'll determine the best approach for the print side.

I don't have a printer yet, was trying to determine the feasibility of the solution before purchasing hardware. Curious to look at this from another angle. Could it be done with a Surface Pro Windows tablet PC? Can the barcode scanner work there and then have native printing support? Could you do silent printing without the pop-up dialog? Trying to determine if a kiosk like solution is possible. The timing / delay of a Power Automate solution scares me.

iPad → not suitable for kiosk-style silent printing

Windows → fully supports:

Surface Pro (Windows)

This is where things become much easier and production-ready

On Windows:

Full OS control

Native printing APIs

No iOS restrictions

you can achieve
Barcode scanning

USB / Bluetooth scanners

Works as keyboard input (plug & play)

Silent printing

Using:

.NET / WinForms / WPF

Or PowerShell / background service

It seems like this implementation is beyond the scope of PowerApps. Not wanting to build out the other pieces. Have to look at other ways to accomplish this. Thanks for the information.
