would it be possible to have a "micro gui" or a toolbar widget to show the step and loopindex of a running flow?

As to your request, there is a feature that allows seeing the current step of the flow. Under Settings in your PAD console, you need to select "Flow monitoring window" from the "Monitoring/Notifications" drop down:

But this will not show you the current loop index or whatever other variables you might want to see, because those are custom. If you think this idea would gain enough traction, try looking for a similar idea in the ideas forums I referenced above, and upvote them if you find any. If you don't, post an idea of your own.
