Need temporary access to Copilot Studio (Applied Skills lab)

Hi, I’m working through the Copilot Studio Applied Skills module on Microsoft Learn, but I’m blocked because I don’t have access to a Power Platform tenant.

I’ve tried creating trial and developer accounts using a personal email, but they aren’t being accepted, and I wasn’t able to access Copilot Studio even after attempting to set up a business account.

Would anyone be able to advise how to get temporary access to a tenant or recommend a sandbox environment so I can complete the exercises?

Copilot Studio requires a Microsoft Entra ID (work or school) account, and personal Microsoft accounts (Outlook/Hotmail) are not supported for creating or accessing Power Platform environments. If you're unable to create a trial or developer tenant with a personal account, this is expected behavior.

Your best options are:

Use a work or school account to start a Copilot Studio trial.

Request access to a Power Platform environment from your organization's administrator.

Check whether the Microsoft Learn module provides a temporary sandbox (not all Applied Skills modules do).

If you don't have access to a work or school account, consider contacting Microsoft Learn Support or posting on the Microsoft Learn Q&A forum to ask whether a sandbox is available for the specific Applied Skills module.

Hi,

this is a pretty common blocker and you’re not doing anything wrong. The key thing to understand is that Copilot Studio and the Power Platform don’t run on personal Microsoft accounts they require a work or school account that’s tied to a tenant, which is why your personal email is being rejected during signup.
The easiest way to get unblocked is to create your own sandbox tenant. The most reliable approach is to join the Microsoft 365 Developer Program, which gives you a free E5 developer tenant (your own isolated environment) that you can use for learning and labs. Once that tenant is created, you can use the new admin account (e.g., admin@yourdomain.onmicrosoft.com) to sign up for the Power Apps Developer Plan and access environments where Copilot Studio is available
If the Developer Program isn’t available to you, the fallback option is to sign up for a Microsoft 365 trial tenant, which also creates the required work account and lets you proceed with Power Platform and Copilot Studio trials.
In short, you’ll need to create (or get access to) a tenant first once you have that, everything else in the learning modules should work as expected.

I tried the Developer program - also not able to sign up for it. I tried to sign up for the Power Apps too and that also didn't work.

All routes to create a tenant didn't work. I was using Copilot to help me throughout.

Maybe I am doing it wrong each time. I am on Windows 10 so unsure if the issues could be linked to not being supported in this Windows version. I don't want to upgrade in case my laptop decides to pack up as have had issues transferring Windows from one laptop to a new device in the past.

I could get into a tenant once but it still wasn't created as a business account so still failed as I couldn't create a business email needed to get Power Platform.

Can you tell me exactly where I need to go?
