1. Power BI as a knowledge source. In Copilot Studio → your agent → Knowledge → + Add → Power BI, point it to the semantic model rather than the dashboard. It respects row-level security for each user and requires the workspace to be on Fabric / Premium / PPU capacity. Answer quality depends entirely on how well the semantic model is designed (synonyms, descriptions, suggested questions), so weak answers should be fixed in the model, not in the agent.
2. Show / hand off to the dashboard — Adaptive Card with a pre-filtered URL. Have the agent pull the filter values from the question (use an AI Builder Prompt node with structured JSON output), then build a URL like eq 'EMEA' and return it. The user can click through to the filtered view.
3. Read values back into the agent for further action — Power Automate "Run a query against a dataset" or Power BI REST executeQueries. Use an AI Builder Prompt with the model's schema (table/column/measure names) to generate DAX from the user's question, run the query, get the rows back, and let the agent reason over them or trigger downstream actions (Planner, SharePoint, email). This is where agents add value beyond what Copilot in Power BI alone does.
