Power Platform Pipelines

Hi,

I did setup a pipeline with the below stages

Stage 1: Development to Test
Stage 2: Test to UAT
Stage 3: UAT to Production

I initially deploy from Dev to Test for example "Solution 1"
Then I deploy "Solution 1" Test to UAT.

Then I make a change on the solution on Development environment. After making the changes, instead of deploying from Dev to Test, I did deploy Test to UAT since the "Deploy here" button is available.
My question is, if I deploy from Test to UAT, will the pipeline get the solution from the Development environment instead of the solution from the Test environment?
I was advice that Power Platform pipeline always gets the solution from the Development Environment.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Rommel

this is a great question and a common point of confusion when working with Power Platform Pipelines.

    To clarify:

No, when you deploy from Test to UAT, the pipeline does not pull the solution from the Development environment. It uses the exported solution from the Test environment.

    Here’s how it works:

    • When you deploy from Dev to Test, the solution is exported from Dev and imported into Test.
    • That solution now resides in Test.
    • If you then deploy from Test to UAT, the pipeline exports the solution as it exists in Test and imports it into UAT.

So in your case, if you made changes in Development but skipped deploying to Test, and instead deployed from Test to UAT, those changes would not be included in UAT. UAT would receive the last version that was present in Test.

The advice you received—that the pipeline always gets the solution from Development—is not accurate for intermediate stage deployments. Each stage-to-stage deployment uses the solution from the source stage, not always from Dev.
