Building an app in Power Apps with Sql Server on premise as a backend - Pros and Cons

Hi All,
I'm about to kick start on a project and looking for honest advises etc...
The current application was built on an old asp.net framework with sql server on premise as its backend.
We are thinking of rewriting it to use Power apps and still use the sql server as the datasource.
Is this a good?  I know we will need to purchase premium connectors but also thinking about the connection (Data Gateway that needs to be setup).
Will this reduce load speed?
Are there many limitations we need to think of?
If you have built any app using Power Apps and Sql sever on premise I would love to hear you feedback

Thanks

What is the volume of data which you going to store and retrieve from the SQL Database?
How many users you are going to consume? (More users needs each one license so cost involved).

    • It depends on the complexity, but generally Great for simple CRUD-style, forms-based apps.
    • Yes you can connect using gateways and SQL Server is a premium connector you need license too.
Are there many limitations we need to think of?
    • Power Apps can read SQL views, but you cannot update data via sql views.
    • By default only 2000 rows but you can extend using some pagination mechanism.
    • Multi user edit are not possible (concurrency).
    • Storing the files and Images - you need to convert it to binary and need to store.

    Suggestions based on my experience
    • If you have organization M365 license, you can look for migrating the SQL data to SharePoint Online (DataSource / Database) which will reduce your license and cost issues.
    • Handling files is easier in the sharepoint document library or list item attachments.
