PDF Function | Experimental vs. Production

I'm new to this forum and trying to understand how to establish when it is "safe" to begin using this PDF Function feature in a production environment.  This is something we'd love to use in an upcoming solution and I don't want to introduce it if we cannot use.  In my POC it is working exactly as planned and I don't know of another way to handle this and excited about the potential.
I have it going from a .pdf into a SharePoint library.

Yesterday I spoke to a MS support engineer who confirmed me that it is NOT meant for production use yet.

They have no ETA of when this will be available as stable feature.

    It's been almost a year...

I have also been hoping for a while now for the announcement that it's ready for use in production. It works great for what I need it for.
