So I am building an copilot agent where there is use of power automate to enable the use of word file in backend.

Now when I published that and used that agent in microsoft word using copilot icon I got to know that the whole document is first been sent and than the query is been executed.

Due to this the character limit is getting reached.

Now other thing which I got to know even if I copy and paste some specific content from document in the word copilot it than also takes the whole document and uses it.

So is there any way that I can disable this automatic sending of document to copilot while using copilot in word.

In Word this is basically by design.

Microsoft says agents can read the entire open document, and if the prompt references the document, Word will automatically include document content as context. There isn’t a supported toggle to disable that behavior.

What you can do is control what your Power Automate/custom action receives: update the action/connector instructions so the agent must send only the user’s current selection (or a short summary) to the backend, not the full document—Microsoft notes the agent decides how much to pass based on your API/action description. Also keep payloads small (Copilot Studio connector payload limit is 5 MB).
