Monitor shows text box populated 200 times on App start up

I have label (lblAppdate) showing an app version date on a component that displays a footer on each of 15 screens in a Canvas App. The text box value is fed from a text type input property for the component, and that in turn is supplied by the AppDate item (date in text format) from the AppSettings record which is created as a named formula.

The lblAppDate is shown in being updated 200 times in the first couple of seconds after app start up, and only after that do any of the actions from App.OnStart and the App.StartScreen OnVisible events show up.

Each line is shown as a Result of Success, but each Result Info message is "The number passed in is a blank value."

What might be causing this potential performance hit and delay to app start up?

The attached picture shows the Monitor messages and expanded JSON version for one; they're all the same except for the timestamp.
