What license do users need for a Power App using Dataverse?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about licensing. If I build a Power App that uses Dataverse as its database, what type of license do the end users need to use the app?

All users in my organization have a Microsoft 365 E5 license, which includes Power Apps Premium. Is this enough to access Dataverse, or do they need an additional license?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the same question (0)

Normally I really really push people to talk to Microsoft for licensing as they can change their mind any time they like.

But yeah you should be ok

Apps using Dataverse require a Power Apps Premium Per User license, or Per App licenses.

The E5 license doesn’t include Premium Per User license, this is a separate license. If you spot Dataverse as an entitlement in an E5 license, this is for the purposes for apps like Microsoft Project which rely on Dataverse. Not for Custom Canvas and Model Driven Apps.

E5s do however entitle you to build apps using Dataverse for Teams.

    A couple of things

    1. Now you can see why I usually never answer because license questions are always best to your account rep (which I am sure your company has)

    2. I want to clarify something @SamHillier96 said

"custom" canvas apps and model-driven are not the same thing because of the dataverse requirement for model driven, where-as Canvas Apps do not require dataverse.

So its not a 1:1 comparison regardless of your license.

    3. Can you share where in your License pack is says you have premium (you should be able to see this directly as something assigned to you) or as part of your agreement

In the End, if you have said license, regardless of how you got it, yes it is the proper license.

Now how you go it.. we can.. well. lol figure that out separately but as I said in my first post, if you have that then yes you are good. Whether you assumed you got it as part of your E5 or not.
